Freak Bazaar Artist and DJ Profiles
Tantrix - Live act
Tantrix are Toby Pearce / Rising Sine (UK) & Antonio Catalano / Kayaman (IT).
Toby was originally a metal head and has played in various rock/metal/thrash bands but was turned onto electronic music in the early 90's and started frequenting trance parties in London such as Megatripolis and Otherworld.
Antonio arrived in Brighton (UK) in 2000 from a punk-rock background and techno orientation. He was instantly seduced by the psy scene and it was at several Brighton psy parties that the two met. It wasn't long before the pair got some Pioneer decks and started playing at a few small parties with Gino (Ginetik) and Alessandro (Mentalex): the origin of Freak Bazaar.
In 2007 Ant and Toby started producing, and in July 2009 they released their first track 'Extraordinary World' on 'la Magica Boutique' records. In 2010 they signed to Blue Hour Sounds Records and released more tracks backed up by live gigs in Italy, Lithuania, UK and Poland.
Tantrix continue to carve out their sound; something funking groovy with psy twists and turns and a hint of retro...chilli and coriander...Inspired by some of the older masters like Koxbox, Tristan, Logic Bomb and Dick Trevor and the newer artists such as Zen Mechanics or Avalon
Kayaman - DJ
I moved to the UK (Brighton) at the end of 2000 from a southern part of Italy and broke into Psy Trance parties since early 2001. Between local parties (indoor and outdoor) and international festivals like Samothraki 2001-2003, Boom 2004 etc.. I found myself collecting a reasonable amount of music giving me the possibility to express my passion and sounds on decks since 2004.
Travelling really played a big part in my life, opening my mind to spirituality and creativity.
In 2005 together with my 3 best freaks, Toby, Gino and Alex, we started to make parties up (indoor and out) under the name of Freak Bazaar. After a fusion with Toby we gave birth to a music production project called Tantrix (Psy Trance) trying to satisfy our hunger for new tunes. Nowadays Kayaman enjoys DJ'ing Psy Trance and Progressive Trance (135 to 145 bpm) and anything that rocks and keeps the soul spinning and happy.
Rising Sine/Tobermory - DJ
Toby crossed over from Metal to electronica in the early nineties, swapping Pantera for Underworld and attended his first trance night at 'Megatripolis' in London, 'Otherworld' soon followed and then 'Boom festival' in '98 had a defining, lasting impact.
Having experienced the nineties scene, the retro sound is a definite inspiration. DJ'ing started in 2005 and the long road of production in 2007. Toby is preferring to DJ uptempo progressive in 2010 as he did at Beltane Festival in Italy, but also likes full on 143/5 style which he particularly enjoyed playing at Tundra Festival, Lithuania, in 2010.
Inspired by: Koxbox, (early) Spacetribe, Christoff, Rastaliens, EVP, Dick Trevor, Beat Bizarre.
Ginetik - DJ
I first got into electronic music in the early '90's, attending parties in Italy but it wasn’t until I moved to the UK in 1999 that I discovered the explosive world of psytrance.
I started DJ'ing in 2005, and along with the other freaks we started putting on indoor and outdoor parties, which evolved into Freak Bazaar.
Freak Bazaar grew into organising parties with established artists and the experience of playing alongside them has led to me playing at international gigs and festivals.
I've been collecting music since i discovered the psy world I enjoy playing driving Psy Trance and galloping Progressive.
Recently I've started producing my own music, I've worked on collaborations with Tantrix, written some solo tracks and have just joined forces with Freak Bazaar and Nano Records crew member Trevor Simmons on a new production project.
Clayton - DJ
I Started DJing Psy Trance in Goa in 1999 using two Mini Disc players and a Mixer, then moved to Belt drive turntables and finally onto Technics 1210's until 2008 when I bought my CDJ's, as I couldn't find any good Psy on Vinyl anymore!
I moved to Brighton from London in 2005 and was still spinning Acid Techno/ Hard House/Trance in London. I first went to Freak Bazaar in late 2008 and absolutely loved every aspect of the whole event, from the décor to the people, the crew and of course the music! This is when I met Toby, Antonio, Gino and Alex, I gave Antonio a Mixed CD and the rest is History. I have now been very privileged to play at four Freak Bazaars over the last two years and am not looking back!
My preference is Psy but I'm loving the Progressive Trance out there at the moment. My Music style is probably best described as "Good/Deep/Full-on/Dark/Twisted/Underground" anything between 135-150bpm, I like to play a bit of everything Psychedelic with a funky Groovy twist. I feed off the happy faces on the Dance floor, and like to keep everyone happy and of course dancing!
I am currently playing every other Thursday evening between 8-10PM on Internet radio @ www.jacks-house.com. Here you will get to hear exclusive releases from Blue Hour Sounds and also the very best in Progressive and Psy Trance. We have a chat room there too, so why not pop in and say hi sometime :).
See you on the Dance floor
